Hardware Pre-Install Guide
1. Access to Rhombus Client Console
Verify partner access to the client console with access control enabled to register hardware while on-site. Hardware can also be pre-registered to the client console before going on-site. If you have any questions, Contact Rhombus Support at +1 (877) 746-6797 option 2 or support@rhombus.com.
2. Access Control Manuals
3. Stage Hardware
Stage Rhombus access control devices systematically to ensure a trouble-free installation. Confirm device functionality beforehand to streamline troubleshooting during the final install, focusing solely on physical and network aspects. This approach minimizes costs and time delays associated with on-site device issues. For wiring assistance, please refer to the walkthroughs below:
4. Registering Hardware
Now that all your devices have been wired successfully, it is time to power the devices and register them. Once powered, the DC20 can be registered to the client's console through the Rhombus Mobile App via BLE.
The DR20s and DR40s will auto-register to your Rhombus console once connected to a DC20, assuming the DC20 has a stable network connection.
Setting Up Console
Console Quick Guide Steps
Follow the links below for more details on each step.
-
Install/Register the applicable Badge Readers:
-
Controller Settings and Access Control Door Creation
-
Associate ports within the console with their corresponding positions on the controller. This page coordinates with the hardware layout of the DC20.
-
To create a door, initiate the process by selecting "Create Door." This action will prompt you to name the door and select the associated ports.
-
-
For "Door Relay Ports," choose "Quick Add" to assign the relay to the door you create.
-
Optional Step: You can follow "Quick Add" for DPI and REX Ports or "Configure" with additional information for normally open (NO), normally closed (NC), supervised, or unsupervised.
-
Upon completing the configuration, hover your mouse over the location. The associated ports will be color-coordinated, ensuring easy configuration.
-
-
Create Door Access Conditions, also known as Grants.
-
Door Access Conditions are used to grant or revoke access for specific doors during set timeframes.
-
Completion and Verification of Deployment
Ensuring a successful deployment involves delivering a fully functional solution to the customer and providing access to all purchased devices. Before leaving the site, perform the following checks to demonstrate the installation's success:
- Verify access to all purchased devices.
- Confirm the full functionality of the installed devices.
Hardware Checks
- Ensure all access controller status lights display a solid green indication.
- Verify the correct wiring size, length, type, and proper shielding for all connections on the access controller.
- Confirm that shielded wiring is properly grounded.
- Test each lock to ensure it unlocks when a badge is scanned, or that they relay triggers on the DC20.
- Validate the DPI state for each door, ensuring accuracy upon opening and closing.
- Verify the proper configuration (NO or NC) of the REX for door unlocking.
- Test various badge types to ensure compatibility with the readers.
- Confirm card compatibility with the readers. A list of compatible cards can be found in our Registering a Key Card (Access Control Credentials) article.
- Confirm accurate labeling of doors on the access controller.
Console Checks
- Ensure the main Rhombus Admin for your company can log into the console and view all devices.
- Configure door access conditions and add doors to the console.
- Set up a user and verify their ability to badge in.
