What is Data Redundancy? 

Data redundancy is a condition created within a database or data storage technology in which the same piece of data is held in two separate places. This can mean two different fields within a single database, or two different spots in multiple software environments or platforms. Whenever data is repeated, it basically constitutes data redundancy.

Types of Rhombus Data Storage 

There are two types of Rhombus data storage: on-camera and Cloud Archiving. Rhombus intelligent security cameras are able to retain up to 180 days of on-camera, full-motion, and high-definition video, depending on the camera model, storage capacity, and recording settings.

Benefits of Data Redundancy 

Rhombus intelligent security cameras are able to provide data redundancy if anything were to physically happen to a camera. Below are some of the benefits of using cloud archiving for your Rhombus devices:

• The video data is always kept in two different places: on the device and in our cloud architecture.
• If the data is backed up in the cloud and a camera or a site gets disconnected from the internet, past footage is still streamable.
• If you are accessing footage over WAN or off-site, the footage will be accessed from the cloud archiving which reduces the upload bandwidth of the site.   
• As with all computer hardware, devices have failures. Often times clearing the data on a device completely is the best and fastest way to fix the computer. If everything is backed up, this is a non-issue and device maintenance is much easier and cheaper.
