Overview
Rhombus Guest is our native guest management solution. It includes email invitations, app-based sign-in/out, nametag printing, and console logging.
Note: To learn more about Rhombus Guest, contact your Rhombus sales representative to book a demo.
Prerequisites
- Rhombus Console account
- Brother Printer (QL-820NWB)
- DK-2251 labels (2.4" x 50'), Black/Red on White
- iPad (iPadOS 26.0 or later)
- Recommended: iPad Kiosk Stand
Console Setup
1. Power on your iPad running iPadOS 26 or later.
2. Download "Rhombus Guest" from the app store.
3. Open the Rhombus Guest app and record the activation code.
4. Log in to the Rhombus Console, navigate to the "Devices" page, and click "Guest Kiosks" in the upper right corner of your screen.
5. Click "Register Kiosk."
6. Name the kiosk, enter the activation code from step 3, and select the location where the kiosk will be stationed.
7. Refresh the Rhombus Console and your iPad. The kiosk will now show in the list of devices on the "Guest Kiosks" page.
Note: To prevent guests from closing the Rhombus Guest app, we recommend enabling Guided Access via the iPadOS settings.
Associate a Camera
1. To associate a camera with a kiosk, log in to the Rhombus Console, navigate to the "Devices" tab, click "Kiosks" along the top of the page, and select a kiosk.
2. Click the dropdown menu and select a camera from the list. When configured, guest sign-ins automatically create “Guest Arrived” seek points along the timeline.
Guest Photos
When someone signs in using your guest kiosk, the photo taken by the kiosk will appear in the list of captured faces in your console. Clicking on their face will display corresponding sign-in footage if a camera has been associated with your kiosk.
Connecting the Printer
1. Plug in the Brother printer.
2. Once powered on, press the "Menu" button, and scroll to the "WLAN" menu.
3. Enable WLAN.
4. In the "WLAN" menu, select "Infra Manual Setting."
5. Select the same WiFi network the kiosk is connected to, and enter your WiFi password. If your WiFi network is hidden, scroll to the end of the list and select "Other," then provide your WiFi network name as well as your password.
Note: When entering your WiFi password, use the "Menu" button to change between upper case, lower case, numbers, and special characters.
5. Once connected to WiFi, navigate back to the "WLAN" menu, select "WLAN Status" at the bottom of the menu, and open "Infrastructure Mode." Copy the "IP Addr" from this page.
Note: If the WiFi network the printer is connected to changes, the IP Address will also change.
6. Log in to the Rhombus Console, navigate to the "Devices" page, and click "Guest Kiosks" in the upper right corner.
7. Select the kiosk you'd like to connect with your Brother printer.
8. Click the pencil icon beside "Configure Printer IP Address," enter the IP Address from step 5, and click "Confirm."
Once step 8 is complete, your printer and kiosk are now connected. When a guest completes their sign-in, a nametag will automatically print.
Troubleshooting
If the Brother printer is not properly printing name tags, follow the below troubleshooting steps.
1. Power cycle the iPad.
2. Unplug the printer, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in.
3. Verify the correct label roll is used
- Use Brother DK-2251 labels (2.4" x 50', Black/Red on White)
- Confirm the roll is loaded correctly and the labels are properly fed into the printer’s feed slot.
4. On the iPad, confirm that Local Network Access is enabled for the Rhombus Guest app.
- Open "Settings," find the "Rhombus Guest" app, and ensure the toggle for "Local Network Access" is enabled.
5. Verify the printer's IP address has been entered on either the Rhombus Console, or in the "Rhombus Guest" app.
- In the Rhombus Console, verify the IP address on the kiosk's device page.
- In the "Rhombus Guest" app, tap your company logo at the top of the screen and enter your iPad passcode to access the in-app settings.
6. Ensure the iPad and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
7. Confirm the printer is not being blocked or redirected by the network.
- From a laptop connected to the same network, open Terminal and run:
nc -vz <PRINTER_IP> 9100(enter the actual printer's IP in place of<PRINTER_IP>) - If the printer cannot be reached or the connection fails, contact your IT department to verify the printer is not being blocked by the Wi-Fi network, firewall, or network security settings.
8. Ensure the printer is on the home page before attempting to print. If the printer is in the "Settings" menu, it will not print properly.
Note: Throughout the troubleshooting process, use the "Test Print" feature to verify whether the iPad and printer are communicating correctly. After completing each step above, run a test print to check if the issue has been resolved before moving on to the next step.
If the problem persists after completing all troubleshooting steps, contact Rhombus Support for further assistance.
Required App Permissions
There are several app permissions within the Rhombus Guest app that must be allowed for full functionality. We recommend performing a test sign-in to prompt and allow these permissions.
- Local Network Settings
- Camera Access
Note: If you accidentally decline these permissions during your test sign-in, they can always be enabled in the iPadOS app settings.
Rhombus Guest Customization
There are several customization options available for the Rhombus Guest app.
1. To access these options, log in to the Rhombus Console, navigate to the "Guest Management" page, and click "Customization Settings" in the upper right corner.
Branding
1. To add your company logo to the Rhombus Guest app, click the "Edit" button beside "Branding" and upload an image of your logo.
Note: The uploaded logo will appear on all connected guest kiosks and email invites sent to signed in guests.
2. Once your logo has been uploaded, it can be further customized to meet your preferences.
3. Update your guest kiosk UI colors to match your company's aesthetic by changing the "Hex Value" below "Kiosk UI Color."
Host Directory
1. Configure the host directory for each kiosk individually by clicking the "Edit" button beside "Host Directory" and selecting users from the list.
Note: Each location can have different or overlapping host lists. This list determines which hosts appear in the Rhombus Guest app UI and in email invitations sent from the console.
2. When new guests sign in to your kiosk, notifications can be sent to users in your host directory by clicking the notification type beside their name.
