Benefits of Using an RJ45 Splitter
RJ45 or Ethernet splitters minimize the number of wire runs. They allow you to run a single wire and provide PoE to multiple Rhombus devices. For example, the RJ45 could be utilized to provide PoE to an A100 and R200.
Prerequisites
- A switch that provides a minimum of 30 watts per port.
- One RJ45 splitter and one RJ45 combiner (the difference is that splitters have two male ends, and combiners have a male end and a female end). Note: This setup can also work with two RJ45 splitters.
- Two RJ45 cables (one short and one long).
RJ45 Splitter Setup
1. Connect one end of a short RJ45 cable to the female end of the RJ45 combiner and connect the other end to one of the Rhombus devices.
2. Connect the other Rhombus device to the male end of the combiner.
3. Using a much longer RJ45 cable, connect the RJ45 combiner to the RJ45 splitter.
4. Connect the two ends of the splitter to the switch.
