Overview
Alert Policies determine which events generate alerts and notifications for your devices, allowing you to customize monitoring based on device type, event type, and schedule. Policies can be created, edited, cloned, assigned, or removed from individual devices, providing flexibility to meet your organization's security and operational needs. This article explains how to manage Alert Policies, assign them to devices, and verify that the required features are enabled for alerts to function correctly.
Create a Policy
Alert policies are required to receive alerts and notifications for specific events. Policies can be assigned to individual devices, and notification schedules can be configured for different days and times.
| 1. Navigate to "Settings," then click "Manage" below "Alert Policies." |

| 2. Select the device type for which you want to create a policy using the selector at the top of the page. The selected device type is highlighted in blue. In this example, "Cameras" is selected. Click "Add Policy" to continue. |

| 3. Enter a name for the policy and an optional description, then click "Confirm." |
|
|
|
4. Select the event type(s) that will generate alerts for this policy, then choose an existing schedule or create a new one to define when alerts are generated. Note: Different events within the same policy can use different schedules. |

| 5. To edit an existing schedule, click "Edit" next to the schedule name. |
|
|
| 6. Add additional schedules to an existing event type by clicking "Add Schedule." |
|

| 8. You can remove a schedule for an event by selecting the "X" next to the timeframe. If only one timeframe exists, the event will be removed from the policy. |

| 9. Once you have configured the desired event types and schedules, click "Save" in the upper-right corner. |

| 10. Click the "Assigned Cameras" tab at the top of the page, then click "Add Device" to assign the policy to cameras in your console. |
Edit a Policy
| 1. To edit an existing policy, click its name on the "Alert Policies" page, then add or remove tracked events and schedules as needed. |
Delete a Policy
| 1. To delete a policy, navigate to the "Alert Policies" page and select the policy from the list. |
| 2. Click "Delete Policy" in the upper-left corner of the page. |

| 3. Click "Delete Policy" in the pop-up window to confirm the deletion. |
Assign a Policy
You can assign or change an alert policy for a device using any of the following methods.
Assign via Devices Page
| 1. Navigate to the "Devices" page, then select the device to which you want to assign an alert policy. |
| 2. Scroll down to the "Settings & Details" tab at the bottom of the page. |

Assign/Unassign via Settings Page
| 1. Navigate to "Settings," then click "Manage" below "Alert Policies." |

| 2. Select an alert policy from the list. |

| 3. Click the "Assigned Cameras" tab, then click "Add Device." |
| 4. Select the devices to assign to the alert policy. Devices already assigned to another policy can also be selected and reassigned. Click "Update," then click "Save" when finished. |

| 5. To remove one or more devices from the policy, click "Unassign." |
|
|
| 6. Resolve any issues listed under "Policy Configuration Check." This section identifies features required by the assigned policy that are not currently enabled for the device's license. In this example, one of the policy's required features is disabled, so that portion of the policy will not function until the feature is enabled. |
Clone a Policy
| 1. Navigate to "Settings," then click "Manage" below "Alert Policies." |

| 2a. Click "Clone" beside the policy you want to clone, then name it if desired. Once the policy is cloned, you can make changes to the policy as needed. |

| 2b. Select a policy from the list, then click "Clone Policy" in the upper-left corner. Enter a name for the cloned policy, then click "Confirm." Once the policy has been cloned, you can modify it as needed. |
