Audio Gateway + External Speaker
The 3.5mm female speaker output jack (green) on the A100 provides all audio output from the A100 to the connected external speaker.
Physical Connection
The output jack does not provide power to the external speaker; you will need to connect it to a receiver or an external speaker with an amp. Below are two different options that Rhombus has either used in our own environment or that other Rhombus clients have seen success with.
Note: Rhombus provides options for third-party accessories not supported or sold by Rhombus.
TOA Horn
Rhombus' first third-party speaker recommendation is the TOA Horn Q-SC-P620. This device is plugged into an A100 and a single horn and powered via PoE.
Figure 1.) Cable map with some additional parts to combine a TOA Horn with the Rhombus Audio Gateway (A100).
Required parts for this setup:
- 802.3af compliant PoE Switch - Used to power Horn and A100.
- PoE Splitter 12V - Used to connect power 12VDC power Horn to switch.
- Stereo 3.5mm headphone jack to mono RCA - Used to connect to a single external speaker.
- 3.5mm Filter - Used to filter noise from the A100 to Horn.
- Ferrite Beads on TOA Speaker/Horn - Used to help suppress high-frequency signals and reduce external radio waves.

Receiver/Amplifier
Another external speaker option is to connect an A100 directly to a receiver that can handle multiple horns.
Required parts for this setup:
- 802.3af compliant PoE Switch - Used to power A100.
- A Receiver/Amplifier - Used to power horn(s) and for connection with A100 to pass audio.
- 3.5mm connector to Receiver/Amplifier (Aux connection) - Used to connect A100 to Receiver/Amp.
- Horn/Speaker - Used to plug into the Receiver/Amplifier.
Note: Ensure the receiver/amplifier can handle the wattage of multiple horns or speakers.
Rhombus Console Settings
Within the Rhombus Console, you must change the "Speaker Source" to "External."
1. Log in to the Rhombus Console, navigate to the "Devices" page, click the "Audio Gateways" tab along the top of the page, and select an A100 from the list of devices.
2. Click the "Audio Controls" button in the bottom left corner, and set the speaker source to "External."
