In this article we will cover the following:
Audio Gateway + External Speaker
Our A100 has a 3.5mm female speaker output jack (Green) connecting to this would provide all audio output through A100 to the external speaker connected. The green output jack is located on the pigtail see photo below.
Physical Connection
The output jack does not provide power to the external speaker you will need to connect to a receiver or a external speaker with an amp. Below are two different options that Rhombus has either used in our own environment or what other Rhombus clients have seen success with.
Note: Rhombus is providing options for third party options that are not supported or sold by Rhombus.
TOA Horn
Rhombus' first third party speaker recommendation is the TOA Horn Q-SC-P620. This device is plugged into an A100 and into a single horn due to it being powered via PoE and also connected to the A100. Rhombus currently uses the cable map below with some additional parts to combine the TOA Horn with Rhombus A100.
Below is a list of items needed for this set up:
- PoE Switch - 802.af - Used to power Horn and A100
- PoE Splitter 12V - Used to connect power 12VDC power Horn to switch
- RCA to 3.5mm connector -Used to connect RCA from Horn to 3.5mm A100
- 3.5mm Filter - Used to filter noise from the A100 to Horn
- Ferrite Beads on TOA Speaker/Horn - Used to help suppress high-frequency signals and reduce external radio waves
Receiver/Amplifier - Option 2
The next recommendation for an external speaker option is to have an A100 connect directly into a receiver that can handle multiple horns. Below is a general parts list needed for this type of option:
- PoE Switch - 802.af - Used to power A100
- A Receiver/Amplifier - Used to power horn(s) and for connection with A100 to pass audio
- 3.5mm connector to Receiver/Amplifier (Aux connection) - Used to connect A100 to Receiver/Amp
- Horn/Speaker - Used to plug into the Receiver/Amplifier
Note: Please make sure as general rule to have a Receiver/Amplifier that can handle the wattage of multiple horns or speakers.
Rhombus Console settings
Within the Rhombus console you will have to change the "Speaker Source" to "External". To achieve this you need to follow the path below; also demonstrated in the example below.
Rhombus Web Console > Devices > Audio Gateway > A100 Device > Audio Controls
