Like our facial recognition feature, there are some best practices when setting up cameras for Unusual Behavior Detection and Fall Detection. This article will walk through the following:
- Camera Positioning and Zooming
- Distance
- Configuring a Policy
- Learning Time
- Helpful Links
- Contact Support or Sales
Notes: Before getting started with UBD, you must first have an Enterprise License on the camera. Once you have that, you will need to enable this feature. Additionally, please keep in mind that this feature is still in beta, so please send us any feedback you may have!
Camera Positioning and Zooming
The camera should be mounted parallel to the horizontal plane. If the camera is not looking straight out, it might incorrectly alert that people have fallen when they have not.
Unlike facial recognition, it is not imperative that the camera is at head level, but mounting the camera too far up (above 10 feet) might start yielding less accurate results.
To optimize the capture of people, make sure to adjust the zoom level of the camera to focus on the intended region. This will help ensure the camera is getting the best views of people as possible.
Distance
The distance the camera can detect the stance of a person is no more than 40 feet away. Anything beyond 40 feet will diminish the accuracy of the results. However, if you adjust the zoom level of the camera, you can likely get reliable alerts from up to 75 feet away.
Configuring a Policy
To configure a policy to receive alerts when there is unusual behavior or a fall, navigate to Settings -> Policies and choose the time frame and which of these events you want to be alerted for.
Learning Time
It takes UBD 1 - 5 days to "learn" what is normal for what it normally sees. During this learning time, you might not receive any alerts for anything unusual until the system has enough data points to start making judgments on what is normal and what is unusual. The system is continually updating its algorithms so even after its initial learning phase, it should continue to improve over time.
