Prerequisites
Before registering a Rhombus sensor, you will need a Rhombus device that supports the Rhombus Sensor Network. You can confirm by visiting the device specs web page on the Rhombus Systems corporate site and looking for the following:
Installing the Batteries
1. Before you register the device, you will need to install the included triple AAA batteries.
- 2x Lithium AAA batteries (series). Each battery should measure between 1v and 1.8v. Alkaline batteries can be used instead however battery life of device will be reduced.
2. To insert the batteries, pop the back panel off using your fingernail or a flat card:
3. The next step is to insert the batteries with the + on the battery matching the + on the device and the - on the battery mating the minus on the device:
3. Next, pop the back on and continue to the registration step.
Registration Steps
1. After the batteries have been installed, press the button on the front for about a second to wake it up. You should see a blinking green LED appear on the front.
Note: You should see a green light pulsing which means it is ready to register (as seen below). The sensor will stay in registration mode for 2 minutes before going to sleep. If you see a red blinking light, there is a hardware failure, and you need to contact help@rhombus.com to RMA the device.
2. Once the green dot is pulsing, open the mobile app and navigate to "Register Devices" on the device page
3. Select the B10(s) you want to register, and that is it.
Note: You can confirm the correct device via the serial number displayed on the app matches the one on the back of the B10.
Unregistering
You can unregister sensors from the phone app. You must be connected to the same network as the sensor you want to un-register.
Here are the steps:
- Home page by clicking on 'Devices'
- Scroll to the bottom and click 'Utilities'
- Click on 'Unregister Sensors'
- Select the sensors you want to unregister and continue the process
Mounting
The B10 comes with an included mounting plate and screws, as well as 3M adhesive stickers on the battery plate.
3M Stickers
The B10 can be mounted via the attached 3M stickers. To do this, peel the back off the stickers and firmly press the B10 to the desired surface/location of your choice.
Mounting Plate
Alternatively, you can securely mount the B10 to brick or wood surfaces using the included mounting screws and mounting plate:
Assigning a Location to the B10
Navigate to the device by going to Devices->Button Tab at the top->Click on the B10 Name
Next, click on the Change Address button at the bottom
Next, click the drop down at the top and select the desired location and hit save in the lower right. Note: If you do not see the location then you must create one. You can read this article to do so.
Setting up B10 as a Panic Button
This process will walk you through setting up the B10 as a panic button for alarm monitoring. When it is set up, pressing the button will notify the monitoring person to contact the authorities.
To get started, navigate to the button that you want the monitoring to be active for and associate it with a camera that is assigned an alarm monitoring license:
Next, select the radio button labeled Panic Button.
You can choose an action to occur when it's pressed, which is currently listed below:
- Send Emergency Services: This is to be the main point of contact to be called by the alarm monitoring representative assisting in the emergency efforts
- Play Audio File: This will allow you to play an audio file from the A100
- Unlock Door: This will send an unlock command to a door of your choosing
To test out what happens when it is pressed, you must toggle the test mode button at the top:
Recommendations for Panic Button Installation and Use:
- 6 inches between buttons
- Do not mount buttons under a metal desk (will interfere with BLE signal strength)
- Once the installation has been verified, let your Rhombus Representative know so we can enable Panic Mode
- Only assign a single camera (restricted to cameras with alarm monitoring licenses) with a good view of any incident that may cause the panic button to be pressed
- Note that we can support multiple camera assignments, but we suggest that users only assign one
- Assign on-site contact
- Regular test-mode test
What happens when the B10 is pressed while in Panic Mode?
- Live streams of assigned cameras (only alarm monitoring licensed cameras allowed) get sent to our alarm monitoring partner
- Emergency services get dispatched regardless of what is shown on the live streams
- The number listed for the button under Send Emergency Services get called/texted asking for additional context
- The other alarm monitoring emergency contacts get notified about an escalated alarm
- Unlocking doors/sending alerts can be set up as alternate steps
Setting up the B10 as an All-Purpose Button
Outside of being a panic button, you can also set it up as an all-purpose button. As an all-purpose button, you have button press options which are below:
- Short Press: This is when you press and hold the button for 0.5 seconds
- Long Press: This is when you press and hold the button for 1 second
- Double Press: This is when you press the button twice within 1 second
You can choose an action to occur when it's pressed, which are currently:
- Play Audio File: This will allow you to play an audio file from the A100
- Unlock Door: This will unlock a door of your choice
- Generate Alert: This will send a notification either by email, text, or mobile app push
When Play Audio File is selected, you can choose a sound and which audio gateway(s) to play them out of.
You can also remove any action by clicking the X next to the action on the right side:
